Being a Housewife in the TRNC During the Covid-19 Era: Post-Traumatic Growth, Self-Disclosure and Perceived Social Support

Abstract:
Traumatic events can sometimes lead to positive changes. These changes are known as post-traumatic growth. The Covid-19 pandemic is a traumatic phenomenon with a massive impact, and post-traumatic growth is likely to occur as a result. The aim of this study is to determine the relationships between post-traumatic growth, age, self-disclosure, being diagnosed with Covid-19, perceived social support levels from family, friends and a special person in the normalization process of the Covid-19 pandemic period. The study group of the research consists of housewives living in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Demographic information form, Post-Traumatic Growth Scale (PTSD), Self-Disclosure Scale (PSS), and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) were administered to participants aged between 22-60 years. The data were analyzed with the SPSS 22 package program. Descriptive statistical analyzes, Pearson Correlation Analysis, multiple linear regression analysis, disconnected samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance were applied in the study. According to the results of the research, it was determined that there are positive relationships between self-disclosure and perceived social support from a special person and post-traumatic growth. According to the findings obtained as a result of the analyzes, housewives showed growth after the trauma during the normalization period of the Covid-19 pandemic period. It was observed that the level of post-traumatic growth was positively and significantly predicted by the variables of self-disclosure, perceived social support from a special person, and being diagnosed with Covid-19.
